Woman with Botox, offered by Timbercrest Dental Center in Appleton, WI

At Timbercrest Dental Center, we believe that a youthful look begins with a healthy smile, but it doesn’t end there. That is why we are pleased to offer Botox® and other Dermal Fillers, such as Juvederm XC, to complement your great smile.

We can use Botox® to smooth out the active forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes. Juvederm XC can also be used to fill in static wrinkles and folds around the lips, facial areas around the mouth, chin and nose. And who else knows more about facial anatomy and peri-oral structures (around the mouth) than your Appleton dentist, John Luther, DDS?

Dentistry is much more than just treating teeth.  It involves extensive training in multiple regions of the head and neck, including the regions of the jaw, tempro-mandibular joint, sinus cavities, related facial muscle groups, gum tissue, etc.

Dr. Luther is one of the few dentists in Wisconsin’s Fox Valley where you can get total facial esthetics including Botox®, Dermal Fillers, and comprehensive dental treatment!

Botox® is a safe, effective, and proven method of smoothing out wrinkles in the forehead, around the eyes, mouth, and the bridge of the nose. It is placed into muscles that, over time, cause skin to wrinkle. Once this muscle activity is reduced, skin overlying the muscles is allowed to regain a smoother, more youthful look.

It can also be used off-label as an adjunct to treat severe parafunctional habits such as clenching or grinding (bruxism), hopefully to minimize the hyperactivity of the jaw muscles (chewing muscles) which can potentially minimize the amount of secondary headaches and migraines, and/or joint pain.

And more good news….anesthetic is not needed!

BOTOX® Cosmetic May Be the One for You

Discover the proven results that 11 million women and men have experienced. With real, noticeable results, no surgery and no recovery time, there are many reasons why BOTOX® Cosmetic has been chosen by millions of women and their doctors.

BOTOX® Cosmetic may be the one for you. You may feel that the moderate to severe glabellar lines between your brows make you look tired or unapproachable, or have other reasons for being curious about BOTOX® Cosmetic. Ask Dr. Luther about BOTOX® Cosmetic to find out if it is right for you.

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows and on your forehead, along with wrinkles around your eyes and lips in healthy people 18 to 80 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).

BOTOX® Cosmetic is administered by Dr. Luther as a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is injected directly into the muscles between the brows. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form between the brows.

There are many misconceptions about Botox®.

Botox Cosmetic LogoFirst off, Botox® is not a poison, but a protein created by a bacteria. There are no live or dead bacteria in Botox®. Botox® works by reducing or relaxing overworked muscle activity.

Secondly, Botox® is not permanent, but typically lasts three to four months, at which time the patient may elect to retreat with Botox®.

Why Does Skin Age?

Aging skin and wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, or damage caused by free radicals.

As an example, the “11s” – those vertical lines that appear between your brows – result from muscle contractions. When you concentrate, squint, or frown, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. After years of frequent contraction, those wrinkles can linger even after the muscles are at rest.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes the persistent lines to form between the brows.

BOTOX® Cosmetic for Men

BOTOX® Cosmetic is certainly not just for women. If you are a man and think it’s time to do something about those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows and on your forehead, or those crows feet around your eyes when you smile, talk to Dr. Luther about whether BOTOX® Cosmetic is right for you.

Treating Bruxing/Clenching with Botox®

Dr. Luther will use Botox® as an “off-label” option to treat chronic teeth grinding/clenching, which indirectly may also reduce headaches and migraines. Not only are his patients experiencing instant relief from jaw pain, tension and headaches, but they are seeing a dramatic change in the way their face looks. The square, severe appearance of their lower face softens into a more normal and esthetically pleasing jaw line.

This change occurs over two or three sessions of Botox®, as the masseter muscle shrinks. Patients have also reported a marked reduction in their general stress level as their grinding disappears. As they break the habit of bruxism, they regain control of their lives. Botox® treatment of teeth grinding is painless and quick (5 minutes). Results from Botox® treatment of bruxism start a few days to 2 weeks after injection and last for about 4 months.
